MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Motorists on a stretch of South Carolina highway said traffic ground to a halt when drivers slowed to get a glimpse of a giant turtle walking with its owner.

Many motorists said they slowed Thursday on U.S. Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach to get a look at the large reptile, but about 20 people, including Leona Brown and her family, stopped completely to get out of their cars and pet the animal, WMBF-TV, Myrtle Beach, S.C., reported Monday.

"We stopped and had an amazing experience," Brown said.
