NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A Florida woman was being investigated for child neglect after her 2-year-old daughter was seen crawling on the roof of her house, authorities said.

Erica Hess, 24, of New Smyrna Beach was free on bail while the Department of Children and Families looked into the Tuesday incident, which was first reported by a neighbor who saw the youngster in the precarious position.

Investigators said it appeared the little girl climbed from a deck on to the roof while Hess was supposed to be watching her, the Tampa Times reported.
