ROMNEY, Texas, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The town of Romney, Texas, will get a new highway sign after a vandal spray-painted the name "Obama" over "Romney," officials said.

The one-word sign, which welcomes drivers to the small town near Abilene was defaced earlier this week by an unknown spray-paint artist, The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Darah Waldrip said the sign was removed Wednesday after the agency spoke with the Eastland County Maintenance Office and a new sign was ordered.

"The sheriff's office contacted them, and the sign was removed immediately, which is our practice when vandalism is reported or discovered," Waldrip said.
