'Warcraft'-playing candidate under fire

AUGUSTA, Maine, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Maine Republicans are criticizing a Democratic state Senate candidate for her "disturbing alter ego" in online game 'World of Warcraft.'

The Maine Republican party has created a website, collensworld.com, to compile comments Democratic candidate Colleen Lachowicz, 48, has made while playing or writing about the online game, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

"So I'm a level 68 orc rogue girl. That means I stab things ... a lot. Who would have thought that a peace-lovin', social worker and democrat would enjoy that?!" reads one of the collected comments, which came from an entry Lachowicz wrote on the liberal blog Daily Kos.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I may have to go and hunt down Grover Norquist and drown him in my bath tub," Lachowicz wrote.

David Sorenson, communications director for the Maine Republican party, told ABC News the party is criticizing the candidate for "the comments she made while gaming," not for merely playing the game.

Sorenson said on the website he considers Lachowicz's remarks to be "unbecoming to a state Senator."

The website has also distributed mailers citing Lachowicz' "disturbing alter-ego."

Lachowicz said her opponents are trying to distract from the issues.

"Instead of talking about what they're doing for Maine people, they're making fun of me for playing video games," she said in a statement. "What's next? Will I be ostracized for playing 'Angry Birds' or 'Words with Friends?' If so, guilty as charged!"
