DENVER, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Denver's South Suburban Parks and Recreation District loses towels at the rate of 60 per week, and said it has scheduled a towel amnesty day for their return.

"We can't absorb the costs anymore, no pun intended," said spokeswoman Jamie DeBartolomeis of the loss of 3,120 towels stolen, or innocently taken, from the recreation district, adding the cost to replace the towels has reached $20,000 this year.

It has declared Oct. 17 "Towel Round-Up Day," on which wayward towels can be exchanged for a small reward, with no questions asked, the Denver Post reported Tuesday.
