OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The Oklahoma City Zoo said it named the baby red panda introduced to the public last week after Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant.

Chrislyn Newton, a keeper at the zoo and a fan of the basketball team, said she dubbed the baby KayDee after Kevin Durant because the baby was born June 6, the night the Thunder won the Western Conference Championship, to parents Yoda and Jaya, The Oklahoman reported Monday.

"Because she was born that night, I thought it was appropriate we honor the Thunder by giving her that name," Newton said.

Newton said KayDee is developing nicely, growing from 108 grams at birth to four pounds in the past three months.
