GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The first Swedish lobsters of the season sold for a record $7,062 per pound at the annual Gothenburg Fish auction.

The price, more than triple the $2,187 per pound fetched by the first lobsters caught during last year's season, was bid for the crustaceans at Tuesday morning's auction after they were chosen via lottery from the boats that brought in the first lobster hauls of the season Monday, the Swedish news agency TT reported.

Mattias Dalshage, the high bidder, said the batch of lobsters will be reauctioned for charity Friday in Lund. Dalshage said the record-setting bid was not the highest he was willing to go for the lobsters.

"We could have gone quite a bit higher. But there was an upper threshold there," he said.
