DELTONA, Fla., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a suspected carjacker who allegedly threatened to shoot the vehicle's owner was trying to get his pregnant girlfriend to a hospital.

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies said Robert Boudreaux, 31, and his 22-year-old girlfriend, whose name was not released, ran out of gas in DeLand Sunday and received a ride from a friend to Deltona, where they walked several miles toward their home until the woman began feeling dehydrated and started bleeding.

Deputies said the couple bypassed a fire station without asking for help and did not use either of their working cellphones to call 911. Investigators said Boudreaux instead carried the woman and stood in front of a car, threatening to shoot the driver when he initially refused to give them a ride.

The motorist told deputies Boudreaux again threatened him and forced him to exit the vehicle when he refused to drive through red lights on the way to the hospital. The driver said he did not see a gun during the incident.

Deputies said they were able to box in the stolen car in the parking lot of the Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

The woman, who is not facing any charges, was taken to the emergency room.

Boudreaux was taken to the Volusia County Jail on charges of carjacking, fleeing or eluding and driving with a suspended license.
