Stores shut down over cannabis leaf logos

BOGORODITSK, Russia, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A Russian court announced two stores are being shut down for selling pipes and other merchandise bearing the image of a cannabis leaf.

The Tula Region court said the stores in Bogoroditsk are being shut down after police raided the establishments July 20 and discovered pipes and jewelry bearing a cannabis leaf logo, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

"According to experts' conclusions, each of these items was found to have an image of a cannabis leaf on them, and these products therefore can instigate an interest in and support for narcotics, and also form a favorable attitude to taking narcotic substances," said Olga Dyachuk of the regional court administration.

Dyachuk said a cannabis leaf logo breaks Russian laws banning "propaganda or illegal advertising of narcotic substances pyschotropic drugs or their precursors."
