TACOMA, Wash., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A Tacoma, Wash., man celebrated his 87th birthday by going skydiving with three younger generations of relatives.

Monty Montgomery said going skydiving alongside daughter Donna, grandson Buddy and a great-grandchild was particularly special for him because he suffers from macular degeneration and was told by doctors that he would likely be blind by now, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported Tuesday.

"I've been making a liar out of him for a couple of years," he said.

Montgomery said he still has vision in his right eye and was able to take in the horizon and the faces of his family members as he fell through the air.

The patriarch, who said he recently reunited with his daughter and her family after 40 years following his divorce from her mother, said he is expecting his first great-great-grandchild in the spring.

"One day I don't have a family and the next day I have beaucoups of them," he said. "I have a family, a wonderful family, and I hope I'll be around for many more years."
