MADISON, Wis., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Anticipating partying before and after a college football game, Madison, Wis., police say they will assign extra officers to areas known for house parties.
"House party patrols" will keep the peace in three neighborhoods near the University of Wisconsin campus Saturday evening, when a football game is scheduled, Madison Police Lt. Dave McCaw said.
The goal is to educate incoming freshmen who are new to Madison house parties, to get the partiers to know who is present and to urge drinkers to pace themselves, The Madison Capital Times reported Friday.
"They just want to have fun, but they have no concept yet of how bad it can get very quickly. If you know everybody at the party, no problem, but when it gets out on Facebook (the social media site), the house party becomes like a bar," McCaw said.
On the topic of pacing one's drinking intake, McCaw advised, "Keep it low, slow and under control."
