STOCKPORT, England, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- A British auction house said a pair of unwashed underpants worn by Elvis Presley failed to sell at a weekend auction.

Omega Auctions in Stockport, England, said the blue briefs -- which feature a slight stain in the crotch area -- were expected to sell for $16,000 at the auction but only attracted a high bid of $8,000, far less than the $11,200 reserve price, The Independent reported Monday.

The auction house said the underpants, which were among 100 pieces of Elvis memorabilia being sold at the auction to mark the 35th anniversary of his death, were worn by the performer under one of his iconic white jumpsuits during a 1977 concert.
