CALDWELL, Kan., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Officials at a Kansas elementary school said children were kept inside for recess after an escaped alligator was seen wandering the streets.

Alan Jamison, superintendent of schools for Caldwell USD 360, said the alligator was never spotted on school grounds during its Wednesday amble through the streets of the town, but elementary school children were kept inside during recess as a precaution, KAKE-TV, Wichita, Kan., reported Thursday.
