PITTSBURGH, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A Pittsburgh man accused of growing a pair of potted marijuana plants said he did not know the property he placed them on belonged to a church.

Jason Como, 28, said he planted the marijuana seeds in two pots and placed them in the weeds behind his back yard, but he did not realize the property belonged to the Beloved Disciple Catholic Church, which reported the plants to police during the weekend, KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh, reported Wednesday.

"I just figured this was one of my neighbor's fields, or just a field. I don't know," Como said.

The suspect, who identifies himself as a Christian, said he never would have intentionally planted the marijuana on church property.

Como said the plants were for "personal use, 100 percent."

Como was charged with manufacturing and cultivating a controlled substance.
