MOSCOW, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A Russian helicopter manufacturer said one of its aircraft set a world record by climbing to 28,380 feet.

Russian Helicopters said the Mi-38 chopper, which is designed for cargo and passenger transport, set the record Monday for helicopters weighing 10- to 20 tons at the 14th FAI World Helicopter Championships near Moscow, RIA Novosti reported Monday.

The company said the helicopter is scheduled to go into production in 2015.
