SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Officials in a California city said a drawing will be held to decide which of two candidates with identical names will be listed first on a city council ballot.
San Clemente City Clerk Joanne Baade said a 9 a.m. Wednesday drawing at City Hall will determine whether Councilman Robert "Bob" Baker or challenger Robert "Bob" Baker will be listed first on the Nov. 6 ballot, The Orange County (Calif.) Register reported Friday.
Baade said city attorneys across the country were consulted to see if anyone had come across a similar situation but the San Clemente race appears to be unique.
The California Secretary of State's legal counsel suggested using a section of the elections code allowing for drawing lots to resolve the situation.
