STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Swedish weather experts said there was an abbreviated summer this year, with Stockholm marking only six days above 77 degrees.
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute said Stockholm had only six days above 77 degrees, compared with 28 days last year, while Malmo in the southern part of the country marked nine days of above-77 heat.
"We've not had any real heat waves. In both June and July, we were only up there with a few temperatures over 25 degrees (77 degrees Fahrenheit). There has also been a lot of rain," said Lisa Frost, a meteorologist at SMHI.
"We have had a really powerful high pressure system down in the Mediterranean. It was really hot there. It allows a low pressure system to come up over us, giving us unstable weather. We have seen occasional high pressure areas, but they have been further south," Frost said.
