EDINBURGH, Scotland, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Doctors said the chairman of Sotheby's Europe was spared eye injuries when birdshot bounced off his thick glasses during a grouse shooting event in Scotland.

Family members said Henry Wyndham, 58, sustained 52 lead pellet wounds to his arm, throat and face when he was accidentally shot during the event on the Scottish moor, The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

Wyndham, who was released from the hospital and is recovering in his family's hospital, was spared eye injuries when some of the pellets bounced off his thick glasses.

A Sotheby's spokeswoman said Wyndham "is currently on track for a full and rapid recovery."
