CHESHIRE, Conn., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A Connecticut woman said her utility company wrote her a $10,491 refund check after discovering she has been paying for two street lights for 25 years.

Grace Edwards of Cheshire said officials with Connecticut Light & Power told her when her bills sharply increased years ago it was likely due to a computer, an extra refrigerator or television, The Hartford Courant reported Tuesday.

However, Edwards said she has now received a $10,491 check and an apology from the utility company after it was discovered she was paying for the underground electricity used to power a pair of street lights.

"Mrs. Edwards received service that is below our standards and we have apologized to her for the error and the inconvenience," CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross said.
