WATKINSVILLE, Ga., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Authorities in Georgia said two deputies are gone from a jail after an investigation found they had "inappropriate communications" with a female inmate.
Oconee County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Lee Weems said Monday Deputy Dewayne Powers was fired and Deputy Andrea Rogers resigned from the department after the investigation found both men had added the 23-year-old inmate as a friend on Facebook while Powers had sent text messages to her phone, the Athens, Ga., Banner-Herald reported Tuesday.
Weems said both man also had face-to-face conversations of a sexual nature with the woman.
"The female inmate involved told her boyfriend, who told the sheriff," Weems said.
He said the men were accused of having "inappropriate communications" with the inmate.
"There was a difference in the level of conduct between two," he said. "The one that resigned pretty much owned up to his portion of the thing pretty quickly,"
Weems said there is no evidence indicating the men had inappropriate physical contact with the inmate.
