NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Police in New York said car thieves made off with a Maserati while its owner was standing nearby, talking to a friend.

Investigators said the car's owner, Chadwick Lange, 43, left the keys in the ignition and the engine running when he got out of the vehicle in Times Square to talk to a friend around 4:40 a.m. Sunday when two men approached him and asked if they could take pictures of the car, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

However, after taking a couple of pictures, one of the men jumped into the car and sped off, with the other man following on foot. They said the car slowed down after a couple of blocks to allow the second man to get into the car.

Police said they have yet to identify any suspects.
