Sewer workers recover woman's lost rings

GOLDEN, Colo., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A group of water and sewer workers in Colorado spent hours looking for a woman's rings after she accidentally flushed them down the toilet.

After a remote camera sent into sewer lines in Golden failed to turn up Gail Wilkerson's two diamond rings, the workers decided to try a Hail Mary play -- sending 300 gallons of water at high pressure through the lines, The Denver Post reported. Once that was done, Jason Hart of the North Table Mountain Water and Sanitation District went down a manhole and dug through a pile of dirt sent there by the water blast, quickly locating the rings.

"This is a story of prayers, persistence and honesty," said Stan Harper, who shares a home with Wilkerson.

Wilkerson, 57, said one ring was given to her by her father when she graduated from high school. She said she and her mother designed the other one 30 years ago.

She said she almost never took them off. But she wrapped them in tissues and put them in her purse during a trip to a water park and then dropped the little package into the toilet Sunday night.
