Dead raccoon painted by road crew

JOHNSTOWN, Pa., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania road crew inadvertently granted 15 minutes of posthumous fame to a raccoon that became road kill.

The unlucky raccoon provided a palette for the state road crew, which was painting double yellow lines on a road Aug. 2 in Johnstown. The crew tried to stop the paint gun when they spotted the raccoon, but it was too late.

The painted corpse was still in the road when Sean McAfee came by on his motorcycle. He said he did "a double-take laugh."

"I drove my motorcycle home from work and I told my wife we needed to go back out with the camera gear," he told ABCNews.com Friday. "I thought, 'This will be a great Facebook photo.'"

McAfee posted the pictures on Facebook and then submitted a copy to the local newspaper. The photo was such a hit that he's started selling prints for $15 on Etsy.com.

The corpse has since been removed from the road but a gap in the paint remains, ABCNews.com said.
