Footage shows chef fought back during riot

LONDON, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- CCTV footage released from last year's London riots depict a chef from an upscale restaurant using a rolling pin to fight back against rioters.

The footage released by prosecutors shows the unidentified chef at The Ledbury chasing a masked rioter with a rolling pin Aug. 8, 2011, when a large group of rioters forced their way into the eatery and robbed the mostly wealthy patrons, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

Authorities said the chef was one of about 20 kitchen staff who armed themselves with brooms and knives to fight the attackers.

Prosecutors said Wednesday more than 3,000 people have been charged in connection with last year's riots and about 2,500 convictions have been handed down.
