NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Knopf Publishers of New York said more than 100 restaurants across the United States are participating in celebrating the 100th birthday of chef Julia Child.

The publisher said participating restaurants will have special menus through Aug. 15, with some eateries serving up Child's favorite things to eat and others serving their own versions of her recipes, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

Child was born Aug. 15, 1912. She died Aug. 13, 2004.

The publisher said the event is timed to coincide with the release of "Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child" by Bob Spitz.
