One of the boys borrowed his mother's Toyota Camry Tuesday evening, and with the help of friends ages 17 and 12, used flashing headlights and blue lights attached to the front bumper to convince other motorists they were being pulled over by police, the Bellingham Herald reported Friday.
Two drivers called police after being tricked, saying the fake patrol car sped off after each incident. A police officer arrived during a third incident, Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young said.
The boys were held on investigation of impersonating a police officer, and the driver was also cited for driving with passengers, which his intermediate license does not allow, the newspaper said.
The 12-year-old was not charged, Young said.
