Woman in 90s refuses to hand over jewels

GAVLE, Sweden, July 31 (UPI) -- Police in Sweden said a man tried to pull jewelry off the hands of a woman in her 90s, but the senior citizen refused to allow the theft.

Gavle police said the man knocked on the woman's door Sunday, when she was home with a 72-year-old female friend, and asked to borrow a bucket of water, The Local.se reported Tuesday.

Investigators said the 72-year-old woman left to fetch the bucket and the man attempted to pry jewelry off the nonagenarian's fingers, but the woman would not let go of her rings.

"Like hell you will," police quoted the woman as saying.

Police said the man, who fled the house, may be linked to a similar incident in the area involving a request for a bucket of water.
