BUFFALO, N.Y., July 29 (UPI) -- A New York couple say they will be remarried at the age of 85 after they spent nearly 50 years apart.

Lena Henderson and Roland Davis met in Chattanooga, Tenn., when they were teenagers, married and had four children together, The Buffalo (N.Y.) News reported.

Then they divorced in 1964.

"The way they would act to each other never indicated there was anything but a friendship between them," said Renita Chadwick, their youngest daughter. "My mother never had a harsh or contrary word to say about my dad, and my dad never had anything but loving remarks to make about my mother."

Davis remarried and moved to Colorado, but when his second wife died several months ago, Henderson and Davis' oldest daughter, Johnnie Mae Funderbirk, worried about him being alone in Colorado and urged him to move back east.

Then, while preparing to move to New York, Davis popped the question.

"We were talking on the phone one day and he said, 'Will you marry me again?" Henderson said. "I said 'well, well ... yes.'"

"I think we just kept thinking about each other all the time, even though we were so far apart," Henderson said.

"You don't think people are going to get married at this age," Davis said. "We're just thankful we've lived this long and that we're still here. We have a lot to be thankful for."

The happy couple plan to be remarried Saturday at Elim Christian Fellowship Church in Central Park Plaza in Buffalo.
