BOSTON, N.Y., July 22 (UPI) -- The New York owners of a formerly missing dog say their pooch traveled about 50 miles in 19 days to make it home.
The dog, a 5-year-old black mastiff and Great Dane mix named Gilly, reappeared near Lauren and Brad Julichers' home in Boston, N.Y., Thursday after being missing for 19 days, The Buffalo (N.Y.) News reported.
The Julichers said they dropped Gilly off at Brad's parents' home in the Village Glen area of Williamsville on June 30 as the family made their way to Cuba Lake for a vacation.
Within 24 hours of being left behind, Gilly escaped.
The Julichers came home early to search for their dog, but, regardless of numerous reports of Gilly-sightings, they were unable to find her.
Unbeknownst to the Julichers, Gilly was slowly making her way home. She was found by Lauren Julicher about half a mile from her home around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
"I dropped to my knees in my white jeans and just started crying," Lauren Julicher said.
