Man proposes on Texas billboard

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 18 (UPI) -- Texas attorney Mimi Coffey, who promotes her practice with billboards, saw a billboard with her name on it -- and a marriage proposal.

Tony Mancil, who had been dating the high-profile attorney for about a year, asked her to wear a blindfold on a date Saturday, and drove her to a digital billboard on Interstate 30 displaying a photograph of the couple and the message, "I love you Mimi. Will you marry me?" the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.

With a growing business and four children from a previous marriage, Coffey's priority wasn't a wedding, she later said, but asked Mancil for time to think about his digital proposal.

He then got down on one knee and officially asked her to marry him.

The billboard message now reads "She said yes! Mimi you have made me the luckiest man ever!" the newspaper said.

Cat makes 6-mile trek home

BEDFORD, N.H., July 18 (UPI) -- A New Hampshire woman said a stray cat she began feeding last summer trekked 6 miles to get back to her house.

Barbara Oliphant of Bedford said she began feeding the cat, which she dubbed Wollie, last summer, but she had to turn it over to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, about six miles away, when her husband of 61 years suffered a stroke and she was no longer able to care for it, WMUR-TV, Manchester, N.H., reported Tuesday.

Oliphant said she kept the cat in her thoughts and her daughter secretly adopted Wollie from the Animal Rescue League when her husband began to improve, but the cat fled in the facility's parking lot.

Oliphant said it was three and a half days later when Wollie turned up in front of her home.

"I said, 'That's Wollie.' I just knew it was him," she said. "He was so exhausted, so tired, so hungry."

Animal Rescue League officials said Wollie must have known where he wanted to be.

"This cat obviously knew where his home was and wanted to get back there as soon as he possibly could," said Laura Montenegro of the Animal Rescue League.

Man shoots his own genitals, goes to jail

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 18 (UPI) -- A felon was arrested in Oklahoma City for possession of a firearm after he told police he shot himself in the genitals, officials said.

Tavares Donnell Colbert, 36, shot himself in the genitals Saturday near Interstate 35 while testing a gun he bought on the street in Kansas to see if it functioned properly before selling it, The Oklahoman reported.

Colbert drove himself to the hospital and police were alerted soon after, the newspaper said. He was arrested on a complaint of possession of a firearm when he was medically cleared.

Colbert was convicted in 2003 of a felony possession of a controlled and dangerous substance with intent to distribute charge.

Burglar takes cheese from Pizza Hut

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla., July 18 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man who broke into a Pizza Hut store took two cases of mozzarella cheese when he was unable to open the cash register.

Altamonte Springs police said the shoeless bandit was recorded on surveillance video at 2 a.m. June 9 breaking into the store by smashing the glass of the front door with a crowbar and attempting to open a cash register by slamming it on the ground, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Tuesday.

Police said the man was unable to open the register and then proceeded to the kitchen, where he took two cases of mozzarella cheese before leaving the store.

Police said they were attempting to identify the burglar.
