GOTHENBURG, Sweden, July 18 (UPI) -- Guinness World Records confirmed a world record was set at a Swedish theme park when people of 72 nationalities gathered on a Ferris wheel.

Guinness confirmed the Monday afternoon record at Gothenburg's Liseberg theme park, organized in connection with the Gothia Cup youth soccer tournament, the Swedish news agency TT reported Wednesday.

"By bringing different nationalities together on one ride we want to show our borderless world and our common responsibility for its future, regardless of nationality, religion, sex or color," said Dennis Andersson, general secretary of Gothia Cup.

Annabel Lawday, a Guinness representative, was on hand to witness the record, which beat the previous record of 50 nationalities on a single ride.
