SOLLEFTEA, Sweden, July 14 (UPI) -- A man who found a stray dog in Sweden and drove it to a local police station had to rescue the animal again when his car rolled into a river.

The double rescue occurred Friday in Solleftea in Lapland, The Local.se reported. The man was inside the police station when his car went into the Angerman River.

He was able to break a window with a knife, allowing the dog to get out and swim to shore. But he then tried to keep the car from sinking deeper and got into trouble himself.

The man had a hard time because he had hurt his hand while rescuing the dog, The Local said.

A police officer had to jump in and pull him out.

The dog is now safe with its owner, and the man, after getting his hand treated at a hospital, is also doing well.
