Rend Essya, manager of the Hess gas station at Broadway and Elizabeth Avenue in Elmwood Park, said he spotted the snake by one of the pumps at about 7 a.m. Thursday and called authorities because he did not know what kind of snake it was or whether it was poisonous, NJ.com reported Thursday.
Essya said police called Animal Control officers, who caught the snake hanging out near a "No Parking" sign.
"Animal Control took it and put it in a black bag," Essya said.
Police said they do not know the origins of the snake.
