NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) -- Competitive eating champion Joey Chestnut won his sixth consecutive Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest Wednesday in New York.

Chestnut was the champion of the men's event after downing 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes -- tying his record from 2009 -- while Sonya "Black Widow" Thomas set a new record for the women's contest by eating 45 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

"I feel pretty damn good," Chestnut said after winning the annual contest. "I'd do this for free."

Thomas, whose victory was her second in as many years, said she had a special inspiration to set the record.

"I'm 45 this year," she said. "I wanted to eat my age."
