SPRINGFIELD, Mass., July 4 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts cat trapped in a tree for seven days was rescued and returned to her family by members of an animal rescue charity.

Misty the cat fled to the upper branches of the 60-foot oak tree on Palo Alto Road in Springfield June 27 and the city fire department was unable to reach her with a 50-foot ladder, The Republican, Springfield, reported Wednesday.

The Peltier family, Misty's owners, called the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, which referred them to the Animal Rescue League of Boston. The charity sent two rescuers, Michael Brammer and Mark Vogel, to help get the cat out of the tree Tuesday.

Vogel climbed the tree, cutting leaves out of his way as he went, and was eventually able to get a rope around Misty and pull her into Brammer's net. However, the cat quickly fled back up the tree.

Vogel was again able to ensnare Misty, and this time she was zipped into a soft-sided carrier to allow her owners to take her home.

The men said the rescue started around 2:15 p.m. and was completed at 5:45 p.m.
