KING, N.C., June 22 (UPI) -- Pet Sitters International, based in North Carolina, said it is offering a cash prize for photos of participants in the 13th annual Take Your Dog to Work Day.

The group said participants in Friday's event can submit photos of their canines in the workplace to win a $500 cash prize and $500 toward an animal shelter chosen by the winner, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Pet Sitters International recommended employers designate dog-free zones for workers who are allergic or would rather not have canines around while they perform their daily duties.

The organization said Take Your Dog to Work Day began in 1999 as a means of promoting adoptions by publicly displaying the bond between dogs and their owners.
