BALTIMORE, June 20 (UPI) -- Police in Baltimore said a Craigslist buy went bad when both the buyer and the seller brought guns to the meeting and the seller attempted a robbery.

Baltimore police said a man and a woman arranged to meet with two men selling a sedan on Craigslist for $4,000, and when the parties met Monday night one of the sellers brandished a gun and demanded money, The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

However, the woman then drew her own gun and fired into the air, prompting the sellers to drop the gun and flee. The woman gave chase, firing her weapon several more times, before the attempted robbers managed to get away.

Police said the two men, described as in their 20s, escaped, but the woman, whose name was not released, was arrested on weapons charges.

"We understand that this was a terrifying, frightening situation, but when you fire a gun into the air, you become part of the problem," police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. "The best thing to [do] is to be a good witness and call the police."

Police seized both guns and are working to identify the attempted robbers. Police said they believe the men are linked to similar Craigslist robberies in recent months.
