NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- A New York teenager accused of attacking his high school's dean often lied about being related to Phoenix Suns star Sebastian Telfair, his brother said.

Cavon Telfair, 18, who police said assaulted Lincoln High School dean Shawn O'Connor around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, was known by school staff and classmates to claim he was related to the NBA star, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

However, Cavon Telfair's younger brother, Ethan, said his family is not related to the basketball player.

"He's not related to me or my brother," Ethan Telfair said. "He just shares the same last name."
