LOS ANGELES, June 12 (UPI) -- Los Angeles County investigators said Tuesday a set of lungs found on city sidewalk during the weekend were from an animal and were not human.

A passerby found the lungs in South Los Angeles and called sheriff's deputies, who turned the organs over to the county coroner.

Coroner's Lt. Fred Corral told the Los Angeles Times the organs were lungs, but were not from some unknown murder victim.

"They're not of any forensic value," Corral said. "We're going to dispose of them."
