Sgt. Robert Dean of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said a citizen reported finding the organs Sunday night on Avalon Boulevard, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
Dean said the Los Angeles County Coroner's office took possession of the remains and would conduct tests to determine whether they were indeed lungs and if they came from a human or an animal.
"We don't know what they are," Dean said. "It's really weird."
