MONROVIA, Calif., May 29 (UPI) -- A pair of California teenagers said they were shocked and entertained to discover a large bear taking a dip in their backyard pool.
Rachel and Valerie Gasparini said they were alone at their Monrovia home when they saw the bear walking through their back yard toward the pool, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Tuesday.
"It kind of like walks over to the pool, and we thought it was gonna drink some water," Rachel said. "It ends up jumping in the ledge, and it's kind of like floating around there, chilling."
The girls said they took video of the bear from a safe distance while it took a swim before leaving on its own.
The teens said they did not see a need to call 911.
"It wasn't any making a ruckus or it wasn't like destroying things in our back yard, so we didn't really feel the need to call anybody," Valerie said.
