KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 28 (UPI) -- Malaysia's Sultan of Johor placed the high bid of $165,261 to obtain a "WWW 1" license plate for his vehicle.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the sum paid by Sultan Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Iskandar, who outbid 9,999 other interested parties, was the highest price ever paid for a license plate in the country, the Malaysia Star reported Monday.

Transport officials said the bidding, which began April 30 and ended May 14, reached such high levels due to "WWW" being an abbreviation for the World Wide Web.
