VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., May 28 (UPI) -- A Virginia church celebrating Memorial Day by displaying more than 6,400 U.S. flags said they are honoring those who lost their lives in recent wars.

The Rev. Jim Sell of the Eastern Shore Chapel on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach said the church compiled a book with the names of all U.S. service members who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and the flags are a tribute to them, WAVY-TV, Virginia Beach, reported Monday.

"This is a church that has had a long history with the U.S. Navy. We value our patriotism and our life in this community of navy personnel," Sell said.

He said the flags will remain on display until Flag Day in June.
