TORONTO, May 23 (UPI) -- About half of young Canadians say driving a sexy car makes them feel more attractive and sexier themselves, a survey published in Toronto Wednesday indicated.

The AutoTrader.ca Web site poll conducted by Angus Reid May 2-3 of 1,524 randomly selected adults found nearly half of respondents less than 35 associate attractiveness with their own and others' vehicles.

Although vehicle choices have been associated with status and wealth since the transition from horses and buggies, AutoTrader executive Ian MacDonald said in a release the findings appear to corroborate the theory.

"We discovered that people not only judge others on the type of car they drive, they also internalize their choices -- cars appear to be a key part of how we identify ourselves personally," he said.

Among other results, 61 percent of Canadians would be willing to walk away from their fantasy car if it weren't the right color, the release said.

Some 20 percent of respondents said they felt it was important for people to drive cars that match their appearance.
