ALVKARLEBY, Sweden, May 21 (UPI) -- Swedish emergency responders said they used a net to rescue a beaver that appeared to be stuck on a rock in a river for at least 48 hours.

Gastrike County emergency crews said they were called to a spot in the Dala River near Alvkarleby Sunday night by a concerned citizen who said a beaver had been seen sitting on the same rock, located near a hydropower station, the Swedish news agency TT reported Monday.

The currents from the station were making it difficult for the beaver to swim away from the rock, rescuers said, leading them to lower a net for the animal to climb into and be lifted to safety.

Emergency worker Anders Bergstrom told the local Gefle Dagbladet newspaper the beaver was uninjured and was transported to a nearby lake that has far calmer waters.
