DORAL, Fla., May 18 (UPI) -- A Spanish-language television anchor in Florida was charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing a set of chairs and a carpet from a neighbor.

TV Azteca host Frank Cairo, 48, whose real name is Ivan Valdes, was charged with grand theft Thursday in Doral alongside friend Jorge Acuna Arias, 47, The Miami Herald reported Friday.

Doral police said surveillance video depicts Valdes and Arias taking a set of chairs and a carpet from the apartment and Police Chief Rick Gomez said Valdes "admitted" to the April incident, saying Arias entered the apartment and took the items because he thought it had been abandoned.

Police said the owners of the apartment, located in the Captiva complex in Doral, live in Mexico and only use the apartment part-time.

Valdes said the surveillance video does not show the whole truth of the incident.

"I make half-a-million dollars and don't need to be stealing," he said.
