MISSION, Texas, May 17 (UPI) -- Animal control workers in Texas said a male patas monkey on the loose for several weeks was caught using sweet bread as bait.

Mission Animal Control supervisor Ernie Zapata said they rigged a large dog trap with sweet bread late Monday afternoon near Los Ebanos and Mile 2 roads, The Monitor, McAllen, Texas, reported Thursday.

Zapata said the monkey roamed the area and ignored traps baited with fruits and vegetables for nearly a month before succumbing to the allure of the pan dulce from Foy's Supermarket.

The supervisor said the monkey, which has not been claimed by anyone in the area, was taken to Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville.
