2,000 attend Chapman's Undie Run

ORANGE, Calif., May 17 (UPI) -- More that 2,000 students at Chapman University stripped down to participate in the California college's bi-annual Undie Run.

Students gathered just before midnight Wednesday and undressed for the Undie Run, organized by students as a stress reliever during finals week, The Orange County (Calif.) Register reported.

Participants gathered at the Attallah Piazza on campus wearing underwear and ran down Glassell Street to a traffic circle and then back to the plaza, about a half of a mile all together.

"Finals were stressing me out," said sophomore MeKenna Lelah. "I decided to let loose and do it."

The event has taken place on the campus during the fall and spring semesters for at least the past 10 years and is not sanctioned by the university.

"Because of Chapman's unique location in the heart of Old Towne Orange, the university works closely with the city in assuring that the run takes place quickly and safely, with no danger to any people or property," said Mary Platt, a Chapman spokeswoman.

About 30 police officers lined the route to ensure Undie Run participants didn't linger too long.

Tara Doustar, a sophomore, said the recent Undie Run was her fourth and she plans on doing more.

"I just think it's a great way to get out and have fun during finals," she said.
