KEY WEST, Fla., May 11 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said they arrested a man accused of hiding a camera in an air vent to record his roommates having sex in their bedroom.

Key West police said officers were called to the home Sunday by a 30-year-old man who told them he found the recording device taped inside the air conditioner vent directly over the bed he shares with his 26-year-old girlfriend, the Key West Citizen reported Friday.

"He said he was lying in his bed and looked up at the AC vent and noticed a flash in the vent," the police report states.

Police searched the bedroom of the man's roommate, Edward Raymond Mathis, 49, and discovered a wire from the camera ran through the attic and into the Mathis' room.

Mathis allegedly told police he originally installed the camera in the home's bathroom, but he "got bored and switched it over to the bedroom."

"I asked Mathis why he changed the positioning of the camera," the affidavit states. "Mathis stated it was somewhat hard to have sex in the bathroom. The USB cable was connected to Mathis' Dell laptop, which was located inside in his bedroom."

Mathis allegedly told officers he used the camera to watch the couple have sex and to watch the 26-year-old woman in the shower.

Mathis was arrested Monday and charged with sex offense/video voyeurism as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
