Clerk asked teen robber for ID

May 10, 2012 at 2:33 PM

YAYA, Russia, May 10 (UPI) -- Police in Russia said a 16-year-old liquor store robber was temporarily flustered when the clerk demanded to see his ID.

Authorities said the suspect, who is believed to have been drunk at the time of the crime, climbed through a window while wielding a scythe in the village of Yaya and demanded the clerk give him alcohol and cigarettes, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.

However, the clerk demanded to see the would-be thief's ID to prove he was of legal age to consume booze and cigarettes.

The teenager repeated his demands and threatened the female clerk with the scythe, leading her to give in and hand over the items.

Police said the youth was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with robbery, a crime that could land him in jail for up to 12 years.
